Stanford gives UW first conference loss

It's gone final: Stanford wins, 58-56.

UW gave up a lot of second-chance points down the stretch, including the basket that put them behind 58-56 in the final seconds.

Scott Suggs lauched a 3 to win, but missed. Holiday got the rebound and put up a desperation shot and was fouled with 2.5 seconds left.

However, he missed the first free throw. Then he intentionally missed the next. However, Stanford rebounded and went to the ground, drawing a traveling charge with 1.1 seconds left.

On Washington's final shot, Holiday missed from about 12 feet.

"Give a lot of credit to Stanford," coach Lorenzo Romar said. "They did a really good job of defending us. They didn’t quit. We were up 11 with about 10 to go and they kept firing back, kept working and they end up coming up with a victory. We failed to box out at the end. We missed free throws, we missed layups, we had turnovers that were very costly at about the seven-eight minute mark and we weren’t able to turn things around at that point."

Huskies fall to 12-4 and 4-1. Cardinal climbs to 10-5 and 3-1.1:06Suggs 3 makes it 56-56.

2:11 Stanford came all te way back, jumping ahead 53-51. The Justin Holiday pulled the Huskies even, 53-53, on a pull-up jumper.

2nd/5:50 Stanford's Jarrett Mann just lost Venoy Overton on a drive and threw down a dunk that pulled the Cardinal back to just three points down -- 51-48 -- and has reawakened the crowd.

2nd/7:28 UW, 51-44.

2nd/11:10 UW, 46-38.

2nd/15:51 UW, 35-32. Huskies have gotten three 3-pointers from Holiday this half, and Suggs just hit one. Then Stanford's Dwight Powell missed a dunk, just before UW connected on one on a Thomas to Holiday ally-oop.

Second half: ... begins with a Justin Holiday trey, putting up back up, 31-29.Halftime: Stanford, 29-28 -- the first time Washington has trailed at half this season.

It's been a bland a joyless first half. It might seem a bit of an easy cliche to say the Huskies look distracted. But the Huskies look distracted. Of course, this small crowd and relatively grind-it-out Stanford isn't helping this thing get any pace, either.

Josh Owens leads Stanford with 10 points. Isaiah Thomas leads UW with eight.

UW had 17-15 rebounding advantage, but Dawgs are shooting 35.7 percent to Stanford's 48.
