UNC up next: Thompkins sees UW going deep

What did the Huskies get for their 68-65 win over Georgia on Friday in the second round of the NCAA tournament?

A third-round date with the second-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels at 9:15 a.m. (PT) Sunday.

UNC advance Friday with a pairing with a 102-87 win over Long Island University. North Carolina got 84 of its 102 points from three forwards: Tyler Zeller (32), John Henson (28) and Harrison Barnes (24).

“There was a lot of Carolina blue at that game,” UW coach Lorenzo Romar said. “They’re well coached. They have three guys that scored over 20. They can be a pretty imposing basketball team. So we have a lot of respect for North Carolina. But we like our team as well, so we’re going to prepare and see what happens.”

Other reactions:

Georgia coach Mark Fox: “You know what? Washington scores it from so many places. You know, they have a great shooting team. They have a low block scorer. They have a lead guard who can create his own shot and hand shots for others people. They're a really tough matchup as you try to build your defense. Carolina has a long team. ... I think they’ll match up pretty well. But Washington is so good, and they’re so balanced offensively, that they’ll take advantage of whatever the defense gives them, and it should be a heck of a ball game.”

Georgia forward Trey Thompkins: I feel the Washington team will go deep into the tournament. They're strong. They know how to score. They got a floor leader in Isaiah Thomas who knows what play to make every single possession. And I expect them to go deep into tournament.
