UW reported in running for 6-9 Phoenix forward

Lorenzo Romar's attempt to add a big man for next season continues, and here's a possibility as reported by Doug Haller of the Arizona Republic:

Washington lost out last week on junior-college post player God's Gift Achiuwa, but the Huskies still have a chance to reel in Richard Peters, a 6-foot-9 forward from Westwind Prep International in Phoenix. I visited with Peters last week, and he said Washington remains his favorite, but he needs a qualifying ACT score to re-classify into the 2011 class. Peters takes a preparatory SAT/ACT course every Friday, and will take the test again later this month.

Peters said Marquette, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and Indiana, among others, also are recruiting him. He originally had comitted to Oklahoma, but re-opened his recruitment after the Big 12 school fired coach Jeff Capel. "It was disappointing," Peters said. "You can ask anybody: I was an Oklahoma guy. But everybody has to deal with adversity."

Westwind Prep coach Bobby Bossman said Peters has great footwork and a shooting touch that extends to 15 feet. He said Peters also understands the game, knowing when to pass out of a double team in the post. "He's not explosive, but he knows how to finish and he works," Bossman said.

Washington has two available scholarships and is trying to find a big man to provide depth behind 6-8 senior Darnell Gant and 7-foot junior Aziz N'Diaye.
