Stanford Head Coach Johnny Dawkins

The ten minute stretch in the first half when Stanford only scored 1 FG

I thought they were defending well. Give credit to how well they played us. I thought we had some good looks that we didn’t make. That’s part of basketball. We didn’t see it go in tonight on some of our looks. A lot of that…give credit to Washington.

On only being down 7 at the half despite shooting 25%

I felt good. You know, we were down seven and we didn’t have our best half of basketball. We felt good from the standpoint that we could regroup, get back out and start to work toward what we wanted to do.

On being outrebounded for only the 3rd (or 4th?) time this year

They did a great job of boxing out. They were very alert on the offensive rebounds and defensively I think they did a great job of crashing the boards themselves. They are a terrific rebounding team and when they put their minds to it, they can rebound with anybody and that showed again tonight. They rebounded well.

What Stanford could’ve done differently to get a win

Well, I need to look at the film, study it a little more to determine exactly what we need to do. But,  like I said, give them credit. They played inspired, they played real well together, and I thought the kid Tony Wroten was as advertised. He was a great player tonight and that usually helps.

On not being able to match up with Wroten

Well, most teams don’t have a guy that matches up well with him. He’s one of the best players in the nation. You know, he’s a hard cover for anybody. If you’re bigger than him, he can take you outside. If you’re small, he can take you inside. He’s a tough cover and that helps their team. His ability to create offense for those guys gives them a lift. He plays with a lot of confidence.
