What was reported last week -- hat tip to Jon Wilner of the Mercury News -- will become official tomorrow. The Pac-12 men's basketball tournament will be played in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in the MGM Casino.
The league announced a press conference will be held tomorrow with commissioner Larry Scott, Scott Sibella, President and COO of the MGM Grand, Pat Christenson, President of Las Vegas Events, Rossi Ralenkotter, President and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority to make the announcement.
The conference will stream the press conference on youtube.
This is a win for the Pac-12. The attendance at Staples Center this weekend was slim at best. Las Vegas is a destination city that fans will want to go to even if their team didn't have the best season. Also, it's Vegas, and I'm sure they will do things right.
The Pac-12 women's tournament will not be held in Las Vegas. It will be held in Seattle at the Key Arena starting next year and for the next three years.
