Morning kickoff: Will Washington be the surprise team of the Pac-12

ESPN's Ted Miller is running a poll on the surprise team of the 2012 season that could knock off Oregon or USC. The candidates?

Cal: The Bears return Zach Maynard and Keenan Allen and were pretty tough at times next year.

Stanford: The Cardinal loses Andrew Luck, but returns plenty of good players and gets Shayne Skov back for next season.

UCLA: Head coach Jim Mora takes over and promises to bring a new era to the Bruins. Haven't we heard this before.

Utah: The Utes get QB Jordan Wynn back to go with a great defense returning.

Washington: Keith Price, Kasen Williams, Austin Seferian-Jenkins all return to put up ridiculous offensive numbers. And then there is the addition of a new defensive staff.

Right now, Utah is leading with Washington in second place.

Some pictures from the other day of practice

Bobby Petrino is in a lot of, a lot of trouble. -- a lesson here, don't wreck motorcycles with your mistress on back, who you just hired as an assistant and then lie to your boss about it.

North Division

Cal: The newly renovated stadium is on schedule to be ready by Sept. 1

Oregon: Here's the rundown from the Oregonian, leading with a Q and A with  offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich. Offensive lineman Carson York joined John Canzano on his Bald-faced truth radio show. Defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti i s guarding against complacency with his veteran-laden defense.

Oregon State: Freshman tight end Caleb Smith, who enrolled early out of Kentridge, admitted his head was spinning in the first few Beavers practices.

Stanford: A practice report from Jon Wilner. Here's   video of Stepfan Taylor

Washington State: Mike Leach evoked the name Harry Potter when discussing Connor Halliday's injury. Plenty of video's practice on Christian Caple's big blog post. In his story, he mentions how many scuffles there were at practice

South Division

Arizona: The Wildcats got their long snapper back.

ASU: Senior Brice Schawab is motivated to win his job back.

Colorado: Free safety Ray Polk is fighting his way back from injuries, including a cracked sternum --- ouch.

UCLA: Xavier Sua-Filo is back from his LDS mission and ready to claim his offensive tackle spot. Here's some video of Jim Mora after his second practice.  There are six QBs competing for a starting job.

USC: Talented running back Tre Madden was hit on the knee during practice and was helped off the field. Obviously it happened yesterday, but Skyline's Max Browne committed to USC and will enroll next spring. The young USC QBs aren't fazed by the Browne  signing. Michael Lev also has an inside look at the new McKay Center.

Utah: all eyes will be on the Utes offense in the spring scrimmage.
