Morning kickoff: Cougs, Cal and Utes finish up with spring games

Spring practice is starting to wind down for most teams in the Pac-12. After yesterday, only a few teams like Washington, Oregon, Oregon State and UCLA have practices remaining. Cal, Utah and Washington State wrapped up their spring sessions with their annual spring scrimmages.

In Spokane, over 10,000 fans showed up to tailgate and see the Cougs under new head coach Mike Leach.  Marquess Wilson had the play of the scrimmage with an 84-yard touchdown catch. Columnist John Blanchette says the Cougs must keep up the buzz generated by the spring under Leach. Here's Brian Floyd's wrap up from Coug Center with full stats.  A few notables ...

  • Jeff Tuel 19 of 21 for 285, 2 TD
  • Marquess Wilson 4 catches for 149 yards, TD
  • Dominique Williams 5 catches for 121 yards, TD
  • Logan Mayes 4.5 sacks

Down in Berkley, true freshman Zach Kline, who enrolled early to participate in spring, stole the show at the spring game throwing a touchdown pass and the go-ahead two-point conversion late to give the gold team the win. Here's the game thread and stats from Jeff Faurado's game blog.

Down in Salt Lake City, over 13,000 people showed up to see the Red-White game and freshman quarterback Travis Wilson had a big day.  Columnist Kurt Kragthorpe writes about the increased cost for Utah boosters with the switch to the Pac-12
