UW to play University of Montana in 2017, Wisconsin in 2018

It's now official. The University of Washington officially announced today that they have signed a contract to host the University of Montana on Sept. 2, 2017 in a game at Husky Stadium. Also mentioned in the press release is that the home game also scheduled with Wisconsin in 2017 has been moved to 2018.

Sources coming from Montana say that Washington will pay $500,000 to the Grizzlies for the game.

Obviously, 2017 is a long way off. And I don't even want to think how old I will be then. And things can change with these types of games.  But for now, you can pencil that game in.

This is not the first time the two teams have met.

It will be the first matchup between the football teams since 1951.

Montana and Washington both played in the Pacific Coast Conference from 1924 to 1950 and played each other 18 times during that time period. All but one game was being played in Seattle. Washington leads the series 16-1-1 with Montana's only win coming in 1920.

But it will be the first time Montana plays UW as an FCS school. The Griz will join Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Portland State and Sacramento State as FCS and Big Sky teams to play in Husky Stadium.

Montana won Football Championship Subdivision national championships in 1995 and 2001 and posted runner-up finishes in 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2009.
