Another big Saturday ahead with teams trying to rebound, coaches trying to cool their seats and one team, you may have heard of them, trying to snap an eight-year losing streak against another.
ARIZONA (3-2, 0-2) at No. 18 STANFORD (3-1, 0-1)Noon - FOXARIZ leads, 14-13-0. Last game: STAN, 37-10 (2011)
Two teams desperate for a win. Rich Rodriguez had his roll slowed first in Eugene then at home. Interesting stat: Stanford running back Stepfan Taylor had a string of 58 consecutive rushes without being stopped for a loss snapped when Washington stopped him for a 4-yard loss on his 20th carry of the game in the upset Sept. 27.
WASHINGTON STATE (2-3, 0-2) at No. 14 OREGON STATE (3-0, 2-0)3 p.m. PT - Pac-12 NetworkWSU leads, 48-45-3. Last game: OSU, 44-21 (2011)
Oregon State sophomore quarterback Sean Mannion threw for a career-high 433 yards in the 38-35 win Saturday at Arizona to help coach Mike Riley became Oregon State’s career victory leader with 75 wins. The Cougars felt good about their first half against Oregon, but didn’t hire Mike Leach to feel good about halves. They hired him to win.
No. 25 UCLA (4-1, 1-1) at CALIFORNIA (1-4, 0-2)7 p.m. - Pac-12 NetworksUCLA leads, 50-31-1. Last game: UCLA, 31-14 (2011)
Cal’s Keenan Allen has 177 career receptions. That total ranks fourth all-time at Cal and is three shy of Bobby Shaw’s third-place total of 180. He also has 2,221 career receiving yards, which ranks seventh all-time at Cal (Marvin Jones is sixth with 2,270 career receiving yards). But, he may need to throw it, run it and stop it for Jeff Tedford to last the season at Cal. The Bruins’ Brett Hundley leads an offense that is fourth in the nation, gaining 558.4 yards per game.
No. 23 WASHINGTON (3-1, 1-0) at No. 2 OREGON (5-0, 2-0)7:30 p.m. - ESPNWASH leads, 58-41-5. Last game: ORE, 34-17 (2011)
Down here in Eugene, you can buy Oregon Ducks chips at the gas station. There were a mix of Washington and Oregon fans in a the couple stops I made around town, all seeming to get along. Or at least be a safe distance from one another. It’s supposed to be clear and crisp here Saturday night. Should be a great setting for a big game.
