Morning links: Huskies crack final AP top 25 poll of the season

It'll be a busy day on Montlake, with media availability scheduled for Washington's new assistant football coaches this morning, and regular UW men's basketball media duties this afternoon.

--- First, the news that Washington is ranked No. 25 in the final AP top 25 poll of the season. This is the first season the Huskies have finished in the top 25 since 2001. They are joined by five other Pac-12 teams.

--- Washington is not ranked in the final USA Today coaches' poll. The Huskies received 67 points, which left them just outside of the rankings at "26th."

--- First, a note on a news item that surfaced yesterday: after two seasons of being played on the Friday after Thanksgiving, the Apple Cup is moving back to a Saturday. WSU athletic director Bill Moos said as much on his weekly radio show, a recap of which you can read over at the Spokesman-Review. A quick scan of Twitter will reveal that fans are rather pleased. When I was covering WSU last season, I asked Bill Moos after the schedule was announced if he was at all disappointed about the game being played on a Friday two seasons in a row. He said it was no surprise, because a two-year cycle was anticipated, and after that it would return to Saturday. His comments on the radio suggest he's pretty happy about that. As others have noted, it will be interesting to see how many more WSU students will drive back early now (a day later than when it was played in 2012) from their Thanksgiving break.

--- Also, in case you missed it, tight ends coach Jordan Paopao will return to the football coaching staff under Chris Petersen. He coached tight ends in 2013 under Steve Sarkisian.

--- The Pac-12 Blog reviews Washington's football season, and assigns the Huskies a "B" grade.

--- Here's a "way too early" top 25 ranking for 2014, which has the Huskies at No. 19.

--- A couple stories from yesterday's last-ever BCS national championship game, which Florida State won, 34-31.
