The Huskies' struggling defensive backfield has taken yet another hit, as a Washington spokesperson confirmed that redshirt freshman cornerback Jermaine Kelly is injured and will not play today against Illinois. And according to Dawgman.com's Marshall Cherrington, UW play-by-play man Bob Rondeau said during the Huskies pregame show that Kelly could be out for the season.
UW would not confirm that report, but said coach Chris Petersen is expected to address the severity of Kelly's injury after today's game.
Kelly, a product of Salesian High School in Los Angeles, started the Huskies' first two games at cornerback after redshirting in 2013. With UW's other starting cornerback, Marcus Peters, reportedly suspended today, the Huskies' cornerback depth is reduced to inexperienced fifth-year senior Travell Dixon and true freshmen Sidney Jones, Naijiel Hale and Darren Gardenhire.
Kelly is on crutches with a boot on his right foot as the Huskies go through pregame warmups.
