Huskies CB Marcus Peters dismissed from the program

Huskies cornerback Marcus Peters, the team's best defensive back and a potential first-round NFL draft pick, has been dismissed from the program, two sources confirmed Thursday morning. The Seattle Times first reported the news.

UPDATE: UW has confirmed Peters' dismissal.

Peters was suspended for UW's game against Illinois earlier this season for throwing a tantrum on the sideline during the previous week's game against Eastern Washington after he committed a personal foul penalty, and has apparently run afoul of coach Chris Petersen and the first-year coaching staff more than once.

The Times reported that Peters' dismissal was triggered by an argument with coaches during Wednesday's practice, and that he was absent on Tuesday.

Peters, a fourth-year junior, is projected by several pundits to be taken in the first round of the NFL draft, with some even projecting him as the top cornerback in this year's class.

Coach Chris Petersen is scheduled to speak with reporters later this morning.
