Huskies freshman WR Quinten Pounds out for season

Huskies freshman receiver Quinten Pounds, who appeared in three of the team’s first four games, sustained a season-ending knee injury in practice recently and will miss the rest of the season, UW coach Chris Petersen said.

Pounds had yet to record a catch. He played in UW’s Sept. 26 game against California, but did not make the trip to the Oct. 8 game at USC.

It’s possible that Pounds could be granted a medical redshirt for this season, because he last appeared in the team’s fourth game. Players who receive medical redshirts must play in no more than the first 30 percent of the regular season -- though in football, that figure is typically rounded up to include a team’s fourth game, which technically comprises 33.3 percent of the regular season. So, it would seem an appeal could be successful.

Pounds is the third UW player to sustain a season-ending injury since the start of the season -- freshman cornerback Austin Joyner and third-year sophomore tight end David Ajamu are the others.
