Mickelson, McIlroy tee off early; Tiger chase starts late Thursday at US Open

Phil and Rory will go off Thursday morning.

Tiger will be the main attraction Thursday afternoon.

The tee times are out for the 115th United States Open championship at Chambers Bay, released Friday morning by the USGA.

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, the reigning British Open and PGA Championship titleholder, makes up the marquee group of the morning wave Thursday. He will go off the 10th tee at 8:28 a.m. PST with defending U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer and reigning U.S. Amateur champion Gunn Yang.

Another group to closely monitor goes off No. 10 Thursday morning right before McIlroy and Kaymer - Dustin Johnson, Adam Scott and Sergio Garcia - at 8:17 a.m. PST.

Phil Mickelson, the six-time U.S. Open runner-up, will be on the course a little earlier. He goes off the first tee at 7:33 a.m. PST with fellow left-handed golfer Bubba Watson, a two-time Masters champion, and Argentina’s Angel Cabrera.

Fourteen-time major champion Tiger Woods, who has not won the national open since 2008 at Torrey Pines South Course, will head off the first tee at 2:28 p.m. PST with current The Players Championship winner Rickie Fowler and Louis Oosthuizen.

And the much-anticipated return by Jordan Spieth, who played in the 2010 U.S. Amateur at Chambers Bay, happens 11 minutes earlier. Spieth, the Masters champion flanked by former course caddie Michael Greller, tees off No. 1 in the group ahead of Woods - 2:17 p.m. PST - with Australia’s Jason Day and England’s Justin Rose, the 2013 U.S. Open winner.

Puyallup’s Ryan Moore is also part of the afternoon wave Thursday. He goes off the first tee at 2:50 p.m., and is grouped with Anirban Lahiri and Erik Compton, who was on the first page of the U.S. Open leaderboard last year at Pinehurst No. 2.

Supporters of the local golfer - University Place’s Michael Putnam - will have to get up early. He tees off at 7 a.m. PST off the first tee with Marcus Fraser and another player yet to be determined.

Tacoma’s Troy Kelly goes off the 10th tee at the same time Thursday - 7 a.m. PST - with Seuk Hyun Baek and Cameron Smith.

The last tee times are at 3:12 p.m. PST both days.
