Morton recorded 42 assists while Skipworth had 16 kills, tied for most in the match. Tumwater’s Kennedy Croft also had 16 kills.
“Curtis is a pretty good team with a lot of experience as well," Tumwater coach Tana Otton said. “We just didn't do the other things right. We weren't putting the ball away on offense.”
Tumwater is the defending 2A state champions. Curtis, a 4A school, advanced to the second round of the state volleyball tournament in 2016.
“We kind of knew going in, we have a very young team this year,” said Otton. “While we have a lot to work on. I'm really hoping that our team knows the potential that we have and doesn't get down from a loss in these preseason matches."
Emerald Ridge 3, Kentwood 1: The Jaguars Jadyn Mullen recorded 36 assists, 17 digs and seven aces as Emerald Ridge split the first two sets with Kentwood 25-22 and 23-25. Then, completely dominated the third 25-10, and finished off the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth.
Kava Durr (12 kills, seven digs) and Tayler Templeman (12 kills, 12 digs) had big nights for the Jaguars.
Enumclaw 1, Arlington 1: Olivia Quinnett’s goal in stoppage time helped Enumclaw tie Arlington on Tuesday. Arlington’s Hailee Wrzensinksi broke the scoreless tie in the 67th minute but the Hornets earned the draw when Quinnett scored in the 83rd.
