Prep roundup: Stadium gets younger and gives unbeaten Lincoln a run; Timberline is ‘starting to see how good we can be’

CLASS 3A
No. 2 Lincoln 62, Stadium 49: Tigers coach Eric Overgaard turned to some of his young guys.
They played undersized, but scrappy. And for a half they were right with the undefeated four-time league champion Abes.
But Lincoln pulled away in the third quarter to improve to 15-0 behind 19 points from Willie Thomas and 16 from Emmett Linton.
“Tonight we started two freshmen, two sophomores, and a junior for the first time all season,” Stadium coach Eric Overgaard said. “We just played small, scrappy ball.”
And they had Stadium (7-7; 4-5 3A PCL) trailing Lincoln (15-0; 9-0 3A PCL) 28-24 at halftime. But Lincoln outscored Stadium 22-14 in the third quarter, despite finishing the game 1-for-14 from the 3-point line.
“In the third quarter we made a couple bad turnovers and Lincoln hit a few easy layups,” Overgaard said. “That kinda took the game out of our hands.”
The Tigers were led were led by their trio of Davion Gaines, Jaden Call and Darius Bailey. They each finished with 10 points.
No. 5 Wilson 76, Bonney Lake 37: The Rams led 20-4 after the first quarter.
And they cruised from there behind Londrell Hamilton’s 16 points and 15 points from Kiwanis Thomas in the convincing win for Wilson (13-2; 8-1 3A PCL).
It was up 38-14 by halftime and 64-22 entering the third quarter in a sterling defensive effort. UConn signee Emmitt Matthews Jr. scored nine points, and so did Daniel Santana.
Wilson plays Lakes on Friday before a home matchup with city rival and No. 2 Lincoln on Wednesday.
Spanaway Lake 67, Mount Tahoma 43: It took the Sentinels some time to find a rhythm.
Following a loss to Glacier Peak on Monday, Spanaway Lake (12-3; 7-2 3A PCL) turned a 6-6 tie after the first quarter into a 23-16 halftime lead and pulled away in the second half to win this one.
Ja’Ontay Foster scored 17 points for the Sentinels, Isaiah Turner had 16 and Jordan Garner scored 12.
Zion Harris led Mt. Tahoma (1-14; 0-9 3A PCL) with 13 points.
No. 10 Timberline 101, Yelm 42: It isn’t often where a high school teams reach triple-digit scoring.
The Blazers had a 20-point lead after the first quarter and got 26 points from Wichita State signee Erik Stevenson and 16 from Eli Morton on their way to the win.
“It was a team effort,” Timberline coach Allen Thomas said. “We got out to a quick start in the first quarter.”
That helped. Timberline was up 29-9 heading into the second quarter.
“Our starters really came out tonight,” Thomas said. “Eli Morton and Erik Stevenson really led us early on.
“In that second half, our big guys kinda paced us. Trevor Joubert, Connor Warick, and Jamin Faalogo continued our strong run. … I think tonight we all bought into moving the basketball.”
Timberline (12-3; 8-1 3A South Sound Conference) has now won six consecutive games since back-to-back losses to No. 4 O’Dea and Marysville-Pilchuck.
And Thomas will take this before heading into the brunt of its league schedule. Timberline heads to Capital for a 7 p.m. game on Friday before a rematch with undefeated North Thurston at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
“I think we’re just starting to see how good we can be when we don’t care who gets the glory,” Thomas said. “We’re playing team basketball.”
No. 6 North Thurston 84, Shelton 56: Clayton Christian scored 25 points as the Rams marched to the high-scoring win over the Highclimbers.
Christian did that on 11 of 15 shooting.
“So it’s pretty easy to get your 25 when you’re shooting that well,” North Thurston coach Tim Brown quipped. “Clayton shot the ball very well tonight. He got us off to a good start.”
But North Thurston (15-0; 9-0 3A SSC) had four players finish in double figures, with Garrett Wallace scoring 16, Jeremy Spencer with 15 and Tim TenKley with 14.
The Rams led 49-30 lead at halftime and outscored Shelton 22-10 in the third quarter.
Bethel 59, Lakes 46: Strong defensive play from Bethel gave them the edge over the Lancers.
“We stopped their penetration and close out on their shooters,” Bethel assistant coach Lonnie McCann said. “They had some looks but they didn’t for in for them. We blocked out well.”
Santiago Paz led Bethel (3-11; 2-7 3A PCL) with 16 points, Darien Ciocco had 13 and Sean McCurdy scored 12. It was the Braves’ first league win since beating Mt. Tahoma on Dec. 13.
“We had good senior leadership tonight,” McCann said. “We played with discipline and unity.”
Daeshawn Wayne led Lakes (5-10; 3-6 3A PCL) with 16 points and Ja’Von Ervin scored 11.
CLASS 4A
Auburn Riverside 68, Auburn Mountainview 45: Jaden Robinson scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Ravens to the rivalry win over the Lions.
Auburn Riverside (3-14; 2-9 4A NPSL Olympic) outscored Auburn Mountainview, 28-11, in the final quarter to turn a six-point lead into double digits.
Zach Richardson scored 16 points for AMV (5-12; 5-6 4A NPSL Olympic).
Decatur 67, Todd Beamer 43: Bradley Graham scored 23 points and Les Sessoms added 14 in the Golden Gators’ win over the Titans.

Scored 20 points in 64-29 win over Decatur
CLASS 4A
Olympia 46, Curtis 35: The Bears were able to hold on for the win despite an impressive comeback effort from the Vikings.
In the end, Olympia came away with its fourth win in its last five games, led by Averie Stock who finished with 14 points.
Despite starting the game on a 21-5 run, Curtis made its comeback throughout the second and third quarters. It was led by Ella Brubaker, who finished with 14 points.
But the Bears turned to their defense in the final quarter, and it allowed just one point, which allowed them to come away with the win.
"We got stops early,” Olympia coach Jackie Robinson said. “And we attacked their pressure. We took care of the basketball, which turned into run outs and easy layups for us which made the difference.”
Curtis (10-6; 8-4 4A SPSL) used a nine-game win streak to start the season 9-2, but has since lost four of its past five games.
Olympia (9-7; 6-6 4A SPSL) has now won two straight.
Jefferson 52, Auburn 48: Nadira Eltayib scored a game-high 19 points as the Raiders turned a close game into a narrow win over the Trojans.
Though, it took a while for Jefferson (13-4; 7-4 4A NPSL Olympic) to get into a rhythm.
“I think it took us a while to get going,” Jefferson coach Frank Parker said. “In that fourth quarter, we just started playing our style of basketball getting the ball into Eltayib. We started utilizing our height.”
It was the 6-foot-2 Eltayib, a junior, who led the charge, but sophomore guard Hailey Still added 13 points and Aliyah Ramil scored eight as Jefferson outscored Auburn, 21-12, in the fourth quarter.
Emily Strojan scored 17 points for Auburn (8-8; 6-5 4A NPSL Olympic).
No. 7 Todd Beamer 64, Decatur 29: Aaliyah Alexander scored 20 points as the Titans bounced back from a nonleague loss to Lincoln to cruise past the Golden Gators.
“Aaliyah was packing the hoop, finishing, knocking down free throws,” said Todd Beamer coach Corey Alexander, who is Aaliyah’s father. “We had great ball movement today, putting people in position to score the basketball.”
Chasity Spady added 17 points for Beamer and so did Makenzie Bond.
CLASS 3A
Timberline 54, Yelm 40: The Blazers edged out Tornados who battled hard but couldn’t keep pace in the end.
“We were a little short handed tonight so we changed up what we did and ran a zone up against them,” Yelm coach Russ Riches said.
Kiara Brooks led the Blazers (9-4; 7-3 3A SSC) with 12 points and Keshara Romain added 10.
Jaeden Ellis and Kaitlin Jewell scored 10 points each for Yelm (7-8; 3-6 3A SSC), which at one point cut a 12-point deficit to six before Timberline pulled away.
“I would say from an effort and mental focus standpoint, we played as well as we have in a month,” Riches said. “Our kids just dug deep and played a really good Timberline team.”
No. 9 Gig Harbor 70, Central Kitsap 34: Brynna Maxwell scored 18 points and Maddie Willett added 16 as the Tides used a big second half to pull away.
Gig Harbor (11-4; 8-1 3A SSC) stayed atop the league standings after it turned its 30-24 halftime lead into a 52-28 advantage heading into the final quarter.
Vannessa Davies scored 16 points for Central Kitsap.
CLASS 1B
Quilcene 39, Tacoma Baptist 24: The Rangers were dominant over the Crusaders despite a strong effort from the Tacoma Baptist team.
“We actually played a lot better,” Tacoma Baptist coach Jen Brooks said. “We came out strong in the first quarter.”
That first quarter saw the Crusaders getting five points to the Rangers’ ten which kept them still close in the game.
“We made a lot of our free throws,” Brooks said. “Quilcene is very foul happy so we took advantage.”
However, the Rangers began to pull away late in the game leaving the Crusaders with still more to work on.
“There were a few turnovers here or there so we can always get better at those,” Brooks said.
