Winner of The News Tribune’s Athlete of the Week (Jan. 3 to 8)

Voting is now closed for The News Tribune’s high school Athlete of the Week poll (Jan. 3 to 8). Thanks to everyone who voted and supported local student-athletes.

This week’s winner is:

Tay Birdtail, North Thurston

Scored 13 points in a 51-40 win over Yelm and scored 25 points in a loss to Gig Harbor in the 3A South Sound Conference.

Jazmyn Shipp, Bonney Lake: Panthers’ sophomore had 25 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocks against Spanaway Lake.

Claudia Horton, Olympia: Senior guard had 16 points and 12 rebounds in Olympia’s 52-42 road win over South Kitsap.

Asjon Anderson, Mount Tahoma: Senior guard had 39 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and four steals in win over Spanaway Lake.

Luke Brewer, Tumwater: T-Birds’ junior guard had 27 points in 65-44 win over rival Black Hills on Friday.

Ryan Tran, Mount Tahoma: Had 20 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals in win over Spanaway Lake in 3A PCL.

Brooklyn Hicks, Timberline: Had 31 points, six rebounds and six steals in 87-60 win over Capital.

Atreonia Garner, Spanaway Lake: Junior guard poured in 34 points in loss to Bonney Lake and 23 points in win over Mount Tahoma.

Hope Hassmann, Tahoma: Junior guard had 26 points in 81-64 win over Arlington, another of the state’s top teams.

Tay Birdtail, North Thurston: Scored 13 points in 51-40 win over Yelm and had 25 points in loss to Gig Harbor.

Tre Blassingame, Auburn: Scored 26 points for Trojans in 85-50 win over Kentridge.

Alyson Deaver, Sumner: Senior led the Spartans with 33 points in 81-54 win over Bellarmine Prep.
