Jaylen Nowell scored 19 points, 12 in the first half, and the Bulldogs, last year's 4A state champions, defeated Kennedy Catholic 66-54 in the quarterfinals of the 3A boys state basketball tournament
Garfield also received 15 points and eight rebounds from Terrell Brown and 14 points and seven rebounds from Alphonso Anderson.
The Bulldogs trailed by 11 points (15-4), but opened the second quarter on an 18-5 run to build a five-point lead at the half, 35-30.

Garfield quickly extended it's cushion to double digits in the third quarter and the Lancers were only able to cut the deficit to under 10 once at 51-43 with 7 minutes to play.
Kennedy (23-4) got 14 points from Michael Sasonoff.
Garfield (26-2) will play Seattle Prep (21-7) in a semifinal match Friday at 7:15 p.m.
"I expect a tough, hard-nosed game," said Garfield coach Ed Haskins. "We expect them to give us a battle."
The Bulldogs are a perfect 3-0 against their Metro League rivals this season, winning by margins of 13, 15 and 19 points.
