Chris Micheles pitched for the Emerald Ridge High School baseball team the past two years.

On Tuesday he pitched against Emerald Ridge.

Micheles allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings and struck out five against his old team to lift Puyallup to a 5-2 victory and sole possession of first place in the South Puget Sound League South.

Puyalllup (6-1, 4-0 SPSL South) had already scored two runs in the fourth inning when leadoff man Riley Pletcher scored two more with a single to right field.

Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Josh Simmons doubled to score Griffin Meyers and Dustin Resnick, cutting the lead to three runs. But the rally ended there for Emerald Ridge (5-3; 3-1).

Todd Beamer 9, Mount Rainier 8: The Titans just avoided two losses in two days to the Rams. And kept their lead atop the 4A SPSL Northwest in doing so.

Ben Arata’s three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning gave Beamer (9-3, 6-2 4A SPSL Northwest) the late lead. The last the Titans had led was after the top of the second inning.

Blake Nelson was 1 for 3 with two walks, two RBIs and three runs scored for Mount Rainier (5-6, 2-5)

Kentwood 10, Thomas Jefferson 0: Jordan Jones struck out seven and allowed one hit in four innings and Lenny Smith drove in three runs to lead the Conquerors past the Raiders in five innings.

Jones, a University of Washington baseball commit, doubled as the leadoff hitter for Kentwood (9-2, 6-0 4A SPSL Northeast). He got a hit and scored two runs. Mason De La Cruz got Jefferson’s lone hit.

Federal Way 9, Decatur 7: It took extra innings, but the Eagles handed the Golden Gators their first loss in 4A SPSL Northwest play.

Federal Way (7-4; 2-3 4A SPSL Northwest) led 5-0 after the first inning before Decatur (7-4; 4-1) rallied back.

The Eagles fought to take the lead in the first inning and came out three runs ahead of the Gators. The Gators however fought to take the lead third and fourth inings only to lose to The eagles in the seventh inning. Taylor Havlicek and Nathaniel Sagdahl both hit homers for the Gators.

Christian Jones and Eli Graham had two hits each.

Olympia 5, Bellarmine Prep 0: Derek Downey pitched seven innings, allowed four hits and struck out five to lift the Bears.

Fife 4 River Ridge 0: Tanner Knapp hit a home runs and struck out nine on the mound to lift the Trojans. Fife lead 3-0 after the first inning.

Steilacoom 3, Orting 2: Jon Gasporra had two hits and drove in a run to lock the Sentinels’ win over visiting 2A SPSL foe Orting. Winning pitcher Brennan Postal gave up three hits and struck out seven.
