After starting the season 10-0 the Peninsula High School boys soccer team has hit a rough patch.
The Seahawks (11-3-0; 9-3-0 3A SPSL) dropped its third match in four games with a 3-2 loss to Auburn on Wednesday.
Peninsula’s past two losses have both come against teams in the bottom half of the league standings (Enumclaw, Auburn) as Auburn Riverside (9-3-1; 9-2-0 3A SPSL) overtook Peninsula for the league’s top spot.
The two teams play each other in what could decide the league title at 7 p.m. Monday at Auburn Riverside.
Auburn Mountainview 3, Auburn Riverside 0: No team had shut out the Ravens this season until the Lions did in their win on Wednesday.
Auburn Riverside (9-3-1; 9-2-0 3A SPSL) had a chance to move a game and a half ahead of Peninsula in the league standings before it plays the Seahawks on Monday.
Auburn Mountainview (7-6-0; 7-5-0) is a game back of Sumner (9-5-0; 8-4-0) for third place in the 3A SPSL with two games to play.
Enumclaw 9, Lakes 0: Josh Lewis and Danny Bonilla each scored a pair of goals for the Hornets.
Lewis scored in the 27th and 40th minutes to put Enumclaw (5-8-1; 4-8-0 3A SPSL) up 3-0. Bonilla scored in the 60th and 75th minutes.
It was Enumclaw’s second win over Lakes this season and came two days after a 1-0 shootout win over Peninsula.
