Winner of The News Tribune’s Girls Athlete of the Week (March 25 to 30)

This week’s winner is:

Allison Howes, Stadium softball

She drove in four runs on two hits in a 13-3 win over Spanaway Lake on Tuesday.

Cassandra Atkins, Federal Way track — Took first in both the long jump (18 feet, 5.5 inches) and triple jump (40 feet, 2.25 inches) at the Kent-Meridian Invitational on Saturday.

Laina Baker, Bonney Lake softball — Panthers third baseman went 4-for-4 with three home runs and seven RBI in Bonney Lake’s 24-0 rout of Lincoln on March 26. Baker homered twice in the first inning, and again in the third.

Dani Biehl, Gig Harbor softball — Struck out 12 batters in 5-3 win over River Ridge on Thursday, allowing one hit and three runs over 6 2/3 innings. Also had a home run in the sixth inning.

Ryan Breer, Rogers softball — Drove in seven runs on two hits in 20-1 win over Bethel on Monday.

Ella Ferguson, Tumwater softball — In 14-0 win over Lakes on Thursday, threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 15 batters and in 5-0 win over Aberdeen on Friday, tossed seven innings, allowing two hits, three walks and striking out another 15 batters.

JaiCieonna Gero-Holt, Emerald Ridge track — Took first in the 100-meter hurdles in a meet against Bethel, clocking in at 14.89 seconds.

Allison Howes, Stadium softball — Drove in four runs on two hits in 13-3 win over Spanaway Lake on Tuesday.

Natalie Medalia, Silas softball — Tossed a five-inning, one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts, and went 4-for-4 with four RBI at the plate in a 19-1 win over PCL-rival Lakes on March 26.

Jasmyn Polanco, Timberline softball — In 7-2 win over Yelm on Thursday, tossed seven innings, allowing one earned run, four hits, three walks and 10 strikeouts.

Sami Potvin, Olympia softball — Tossed an eight-inning gem in 2-1 win over Sumner on Thursday, allowing one unearned run, walking two and striking out 18. Also went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in 12-2 win over Bethel on Wednesday.

Madison Walls, Fife softball — Twirled a 16-strikeout complete game in Fife’s 4-2 win over Enumclaw on March 26, and went 5-for-5 at the plate with three runs and one RBI in a 17-6 win over White River on March 28.

Payton Walling, Graham-Kapowsin softball — Went 3-for-5 with five RBI in 20-2 win over Puyallup on Monday, including a three-run home run in the first inning.

Alanna Wirtala, Emerald Ridge softball — Jags starter tossed two shutout innings (four strikeouts) and went 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI vs. Curtis on March 25. Three days later, Wirtala threw a seven-inning complete game in an 11-4 win over rival Puyallup with eight strikeouts; added a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.

Sarah Wright, Kentwood softball — Utter dominance: Wright faced 13 batters and struck out 12. One of the state’s top arms threw a four-inning no-hitter in Kentwood’s 15-0 win over Kennedy Catholic on March 26. A dropped third strike allowed Kennedy Catholic’s only baserunner.
