Enumclaw’s tip-in dunk, Lincoln’s game-winner make highlights of the week
RAINWATER GOES UP
Enumclaw’s 6-foot-6 senior forward Justus Rainwater runs from the top of the key all the way to the rim for a tip-in dunk and the Hornets’ first points of the first quarter.
The Hornets eventually won the game over Sumner, 57-53.
MCCALL’S GAME-WINNER
The Lincoln girls basketball had not beat Wilson in four tried under coach Jamila Jones.
Until McCall’s basket last Wednesday.
The Abes swung the ball around the top of the key and hit McCall on the right block. She turned and sunk the floater in the waning seconds to give Lincoln its 53-51 win over Wilson. The Rams didn’t have enough time to get off another shot.
JENKINS FROM DEEP
Where can’t Wilson’s David Jenkins Jr. make shots?
Lincoln was rolling but Jenkins got off one last halfcourt heave just before the third-quarter buzzer, banked it in and cut what was a 20-point Wilson deficit.
It got Jenkins going. He helped cut it to 11 in the fourth quarter. Only Lincoln’s lead was already too large and the Abes won 73-59. Jenkins scored a game-high 25 points.
MAN OF MANY CROSSOVERS
Steilacoom’s Bernard Smith had his White River defender spinning in a circle. He crossed over to his left hand, then back to his right, then back to his left before cruising down an open lane and dishing it off to Robbion Harris underneath for the basket just before halftime.
White River would get the final laugh, though – winning 50-44 for sole possession of second place in the 2A SPSL standings.
FRESHMAN FINISHES
Charles Wright’s Shoni Pritchett scored 23 of her 34 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, but it was freshman Julia Hanly who got the Tarries to that OT period.
She took a pass at the top of the key and heaved a 3-pointer that banked in and tied the game against Cascade Christian and send it into overtime.
Pritchett later scored the game-winning basket on a three-point play underneath the basket with 22 seconds remaining to lift Charles Wright to the 62-59 victory.
