While the Mariners were squandering a game in the ninth inning on Sunday, their opponent for the next three days – the Angels – were pulling one out.
The Angels rallied past the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-3, with two runs in the bottom of the ninth. That completed a six-game homestand in which all four of the Angels victories were of the walkoff variety.
Not only have the Angels been clutch, they've been pretty good. They've won five consecutive series, and have owned at least a piece of first place in the American League West for all but eight days this season.
They've been able to dominate the division while not dominating the stats. The Angels, who went just 15-13 in May, rank ninth in the AL in runs scored and seventh in team ERA.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick. Kendrick, who pulled his hamstring against the Mariners, was just activated from the disabled list on Friday after missing 42 games.
The Angels could use Kendrick because they had to place third baseman Chone Figgins on the DL this weekend with a pulled hamstring.
RECORD VS. MARINERS
The Angels are 3-3 against the Mariners. Each team has gone 2-1 at home this season.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Angels' sluggish offense has not scored more than four runs in 12 straight games, dating back to a 10-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 18.
