Went back to the beginning of the year a few days ago and read what columnists - and the blogosphere - had to say about the possibility of Ken Griffey Jr. coming to Seattle in 2009.
Let's say the opinions were ... mixed.
The main concern was that he'd become a cluhouse cancer if he didn't get enough playing time, if he didn't hit well, if he missed his family in Florida.
Looking back, Griffey dealt with all those issues - remember when the argument was if he didn't play left field he'd create problems?
Talking to Junior, some of his teammates and others around the Seattle Mariners, it's clear that Griffey has had as much fun this season as any in memory.
If you missed it, here's the story those interviews produced.
Griffey helped this team dig itself out of a hole, as an organization, with its fans and with wins.
The issue of his return remains a work in progress, but this turned out to be a marvelous decision.
