As the Seattle Mariners wait for Adrian Beltre to make a decision on his future, things began heating up on the third base front.
Boston acknowledges it has 'serious' interest in Beltre, but would have to trade Mark Lowell before making a deal. Moving Lowell won't be easy.
And three teams - Minnesota, Houston and Baltimore - have begun talking about getting help at third base. Unfortunately for Beltre, those teams seem more inclined to pursue free agent Pedro Feliz.
Other teams, including the Cardinals, Giants and Braves, prefer Mark DeRosa.
And Miguel Tejada has made it known he's willing to move from shortstop to third base.
None of that diminishes Beltre's value in Seattle's eyes. It may, however, impact what the free agent can get on the open market.
Now then, if you need to shake off the chill and have a bit of fun, read Kirby Arnold's post this morning. Always writing with a sense of fun, Kirby took Jack Zduriencik's quote - "...we have an interest in another infielder who used to be here" - and took a look at what that could mean.
