About the time Adam Moore appeared to have heated up at the plate - and behind it - the rookie catcher was hurt beating out an eighth-inning infield single today.
Moore bruised his left heel lunging for the bag at first base, then limped around as manager Don Wakamatsu and trainer Rob Nodine talked with him.
Moore convinced them to leave him in the game, and one out later Ichiro shot a ball into the right field corner - an easy double, except Moore pulled up in pain at second base.
“I had pain in the heel, but when I got to second base I felt a lot of pressure in my left knee, like a pop,” Moore said. “X-rays were negative, and I’m hoping I’m just day-to-day.”
The play might have cost the Mariners a run. Ahead 2-0 at the time, the Mariners would have had runners at second and third base with one out, but instead had them a first and second base.
Chone Figgins grounded into a double play, ending the inning.
Moore will be re-evaluated Sunday but almost certainly won't be available for at least a few days. Catcher Rob Johnson has a tight back, but will start today.
