Don Wakamatsu made it official today, Ryan Rowland-Smith is headed to the Seattle Mariners bullpen - and Ian Snell is returning to the rotation.
"We haven't lost faith in him, we want to give him a bit of a mental break - which is what we did with Snell earlier," Wakamatsu said. "We've seen Ian's approach change, he's been more aggressive, and we want him to continue the same thing as a starter.
"We're giving Rowland-Smith a change of scenery, and we'll use him in a few roles - long relief, maybe situational work. Sometimes, a change of scenery makes a difference."
Rowland-Smith made eight starts and went 0-4 with a 7.62 earned run average, and opposing hitters batted .323 against him. Snell made four starts, then three relief appearances. Overall, he's 0-2 with a 4.76 ERA.
