Larry LaRue takes a look at the first half of the season and what has gone right for the Mariners. Here's a hint it's not the offense.
From the STORY....
Wedge, whose mission from Day One of spring training was to re-instill pride and toughness to the Mariners, said the pitching staff has taken the lead all season.
“The guys in our rotation are bulldogs, none of them want to come out of games,” he said. “Our bullpen has taken a lot of pride in making leads hold up. We’re a team still finding ways to win games, and the pitching has given us the chance to win most every game we’ve played.”
Need evidence? A team that ranks 30th in the majors in batting average, hits, runs, slugging and on-base percentage, the Mariners pitching has kept games close enough for that offense to come up with 12 walk-off victories.
