A long time Mariner enters the front office

A minor league catcher, then the Seattle Mariners bullpen catcher in 1992, Roger Hansen has been with the team more than 20 years and today was named special assistant to general manager Jack Zduriencik.

"Roger has a long history working in our player development department," Zduriencik said in a statement. "His new role reporting directly to me will allow him greater influence in a variety of areas."

For the past eight years, Hansen has been the Mariners catching coordinator, working throughout the minor league system, though in truth he has been an extra set of eyes and ears for the team in a variety of capacities.

His most famous job as a player? The team made him the roommate of Ken Griffey Jr. in Junior's first year in the system.s
