Former scout, coach and big league manager John Boles, who spent the past seven years with the Seattle Mariners, has joined the Kansas City Royals as a special advisor to general manager Dayton Moore.
Now 63, Boles has worked with the Montreal Expos, Florida Marlins, Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers and Mariners.
As Kansas City beat writer Dick Kaegel points out in his story, Boles is also one of just seven managers in major league history who never played in the minors or the majors.
Boles had been a special assisstant to GM Jack Zduriencik since Z's arrival in 2008.
