News, notes and rumors from the Dallas winter meetings: Want to be general manager of the Houston Astros? You'd be in the minority, apparently - Tampa's Andrew Friedman, White Sox assistant GM Rick Hahn, Rangers assistant GM Thad Levine and former Dodgers assistant Kim Ng have all been offered the job and said 'no thanks.'
Could mean the team will eventually get around to Seattle Mariners assistant GM Jeff Kingston, who's done solid work in San Diego and Seattle.
And in Dallas, writers are speculating on what was first reported here a month ago: veteran lefty Jamie Moyer, on the comeback trail at 49, appeals to the Mariners and a handful of other teams. Seattle is also linked to left-hander Jeff Francis as Jack Zduriencik looks to solidiy his rotation.
Former Toronto, Baltimore, Seattle and Philadelphia GM Pat Gillick says he'd be willing to serve as the Dodgers team president under new ownership. And the Texas Rangers, who signed closer Joe Nathan and moved Neftali Feliz to the rotation are now 'seriously' in the chase to land Mark Buehrle.
Another ex-Mariner free agent, first baseman Casey Kotchman, is in talks with the Cleveland Indians.
