Rumors appear almost at randon during the winter meetings, and a few have legs. Two of interest to Seattle Mariners fans: left-handed reliever George Sherrill has talked to the team about a possible return - and the Angels have apparently inquired about closer Brandon League.
That doesn't mean a signing or trade are imminent, just that Jack Zduriencik and his team have been doing precisely what he promised in Dallas, talking and listening.
A few former Mariners names have popped up today, too: infielder Matt Mangini signed a minor league deal with the Tampa Rays, Cleveland is said to be looking at Mike Cameron as a fourth outfielder and Milwaukee has contacted shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt - whose option they declined in November - about re-signing at a lower figure.
The Mets are talking to two ex-Mariners, outfielder Endy Chavez and 40-year-old pitcher Miguel Batistas - yikes!
And here's an intriguing thought: The Mariners would love to upgrade at shortstop - offensively and defensively - and Florida's Hanley Ramirez is balking at the thought of moving to third base now that Jose Reyes has signed.
