Winter meetings: trades and a dress code

The San Diego Padres became the latest team to land a new closer by acquiring Huston Street from the Colorado Rockies for a minor leaague player to be named, and the winter meetings in Dallas produced at least one major surprise - a media dress code.

No, the Seattle Mariners havent made a trade or signed a free agent yet, but they won't have to worry about scruffy reporters wearing flip-flops in the clubhouse next year. Baseball became the first professional major league in America to come up with rules for appropriate dress, and you can read the details here. Thankfully for Larry Stone and me, Hawaiin shirts were not banned.

The Florida Marlins say they've made their final offer to free agent Albert Pujols - 10 years and $220 million. Logically, if they don't land him, they may turn their attention and their cash to free agent first baseman Prince Fielder.

The Dodgers signed veteran catcher Josh Bard, one of the few Mariners free agents, to a minor league contract. The Mets sent outfielder Angel Pagan to the Giants for outfielder Andres Torres and right-hander Ramon Ramirez.
