Jeff Pentland – the same Jeff Pentland that worked as the Mariners hitting coach from 2005-08 – was hired to be the Rainiers hitting coach, the team announced in a press release this afternoon.

Pentland, 65, spent the last four years working in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, including last season as the team's major league hitting coach. Prior to 2010, he was the organization's minor league hitting instructor.

Pentland has 13 years of experience as a hitting coach in the majors. In addition to stints with the Dodgers and Mariners, he worked for the Kansas City Royals (2002-05) and Chicago Cubs (1997-2002). He also served as the minor league hitting coordinator for the New York Mets at the beginning of the 1997 season, and from 1992-96, he worked in several capacities with the Florida Marlins, including scout (1992-93) and minor league hitting coach (1993-96).
