Ryan sits as Mariners tweak their lineup

Seattle's lineup continues to evolve, and today Eric Wedge is sitting shortstop Brendan Ryan, moving Kyle Seager up, getting Jesus Montero back and letting live-wire infielder Munenori Kawasaki play at short.

Let it not be said this team isn't trying to find itself.

Ryan had a terrible game last night, at the plate and in the field, but it's unusual to simply bench a starting shortstop after a bad game- and it's possible Ryan is still having issues with the stiff neck that kept him on the bench in Oakland.

Seager moved to fifth in the lineup because he is raking, three hits and three RBI last night, and an impressive run at the plate that began in Oakland. The kid hits, hits in the clutch, and is forcing the Mariners to consider their options when Mike Carp and Franklin Gutierrez return from the disabled list.

And Montero returns from a losing fight with sea food, not having yet broken out at the plate as the team's rookie designated hitter. Most everyone thinks he will, but until he does, fans are left wondering.

Here's today's lineup:
