A pair of aces: Yu Darvish vs. Felix Hernandez

Greetings from Safeco Field where the roof is closed thanks to a rainy gray day here in the Northwest. It's not often that the national spotlight in baseball fall on Seattle .... well unless the Mariners get no-hit. But tonight, this is the marquee game on the lineup thanks to a pitching matchup featuring Yu Darvish and Felix Hernandez.

If you look back at the previous Darvish (no relation) starts, you will see the Mariners were the only team to score more than three earned runs against him this season. If you recall that was mostly in the first inning. Since then, Darvish has been pretty dominant. He's posted a 5-1 record in his last seven starts with a 1.93 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .204 against him and he's struck out 53 batters in 46 1/3 innings pitched.

Obviously, Felix doesn't have quite the record ... which means nothing, since he doesn't have quite the run support that Darvish gets with the Rangers. Still, he's been pretty damn good. He has 3.02 ERA in 62 2/3 innings pitched. He's struck out 61 batters and walked just 19. He hasn't been exactly stellar in his last two starts. But we know how competitive he is and how likes to rise to the occasion.
