On fences, Gutierrez, Olivo & Mariners lineup

A pre-game chat with Eric Wedge touched on a number of topics this morning, from Safeco Field dimensions to players coming and going and not quite ready for prime time.

  • Franklin Gutierrez tested is ailing right heel running in the outfield and came off without a limp, a major step for a player who has been on the disabled list all season. The plan now: Gutierrez will work out with the team this home stand, spend at least five days playing in extended spring training in Arizona and then begin a 20-game minor league rehab assigments. Was Wedge pleased? "I'll be pleased when he's back with us," he said.
  • Move those fences? "I have my thoughts and I'm not going to share them with you," Wedge said. "At the end of the season, as an organization, we'll look at everything - on and off the field."
  • Catcher Jesus Montero was behind the plate in a day game after catching a night game because John Jaso is fighting a tender shoulder after taking a foul tip Monday night.
  • Miguel Olivo is close to rejoining the team - probably this weekend - which means someone on the 25-man roster must go. Candidates? Popular favorite is Chone Figgins, but it's probably too early for the front office to jettison another season and a half of salary. That leaves reserves Alex Liddi and Casper Wells.
