Remember Chone Figgins? He's starting in center field today.

While Casper Wells starts today for the Rainiers, the player that forced him to Tacoma - Chone Figgins - will make a rare start today. Figgins will be batting second and playing center field.

When was the last time Figgins started a game?

It was back on May 16 in Cleveland. He went 0-for-3.

Why is he getting the start today?

Well, the Angels are starting lefty CJ Wilson and its a way to give Michael Saunders a day off. And everybody gets to play every once in a while, unless you are Hisashi Iwakuma.

Figgins has played in just seven games in the month of May and hasn't had a hit since when April 29.

Look, I have no understanding why Chone Figgins is still on the team. As I sad in the radio hit below, I don''t think there is any way that GM Jack Zduriencik or manager Eric Wedge wanted to keep him on the team. He brings little value. Who helps them win games more more, Figgins or Wells? The answer isn't that tough to come up with. I think that was a decision by president Chuck Armstrong. At some point, the Mariners have to just move on. But when will that be? It's a baseball decision that will likely be determined by a man who thinks he knows baseball, but doesn't.
