Seattle Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak, who struggled much of the first six weeks of the season - with some fans and media calling for his job - has been named American League Player of Week for last week.
Smoak batted .348 with a double, three home runs, eigh RBI, six walks and seven runs scored in six games against the Rangers and White Sox.
It is the first such award for Smoak, and he is the first Mariner given the award since Ichiro Suzuki for the week ending Sept. 26, 2010
He will be given a watch as recognition - and keep his spot in the lineup tonight:
