The Mariners made a few morning roster moves
Alex Liddi has been optioned to Triple A Tacoma, while catcher John Hicks, infielder Stefen Romero and catcher Ronny Paulino have been re-assigned to minor league camp.
Liddi has been with the Italian team in the World Baseball Classic. I'm not sure he's back yet from that experience.
Hicks impressed manager Eric Wedge and the rest of the Mariners front office this spring with his athleticism behind the plate and his maturity. Romero had a breakout game against the Rangers in Surprise with a grand slam and a three-run homer. But he suffered a strained oblique the next day. He is still not doing much in baseball activities. Paulino was trying to vie for the Mariners back-up catching spot, but Kelly Shoppach had the inside track from day one. I wouldn't be surprised if Paulino is even with the organization by the time the season starts. He may even have an opt out of his contract by a certain date in the season.

Hicks and Mike Zunino will be with Double A or Triple A - we aren't sure which, but the Mariners will likely split them up. Jesus Sucre will the be the back-up at one of those places. He's impressed Wedge this spring with his presence and defense behind the plate
As I was reminded, the reasons Hicks, Paulino and Romero were only re-assigned and not optioned to a specific team is because they are on the 40-man roster.
