Mariners prized pitching prospect Danny Hultzen was in Seattle on Friday, but it wasn't for a call-up to the big league team. It was for a much more unpleasant reason.
Hultzen, 23 was examined Friday by the Mariners medical director Dr. Edward Khalfayan, diagnosed a left rotator cuff strain and tendonitis.
Hultzen was scratched from his start on Thursday when he had trouble getting loose prior to the game. The Mariners had him fly up to Seattle to be examined by Khalfayan.
The treatment for the strain will be with rest and rehabilitation. He is expected to miss round two weeks.
