A quick recap of all my tweet on the Mariners. Not instantaneous. Have to follow me at @TNT_Mariners for that. But will try to update this file often.
Latest stuff on top.
4:19: Erasmo Ramirez works six strong innings in #Mariners' 3-0 victory over Cubs. The game capsule from our Insiders Blog. bit.ly/PVA209
4:05: Rodney on scoreless inning (and touching 94): "My fastball is there. I'm still working a little bit on my location right now."
4:02: McClendon on whether Ramirez (2 ERs in 18 2/3 IP) is in rotation: "I'm not ready to answer those things yet."
3:34: Already had a ring. Now he has $240 million. @k_boy 17 more hits than he'll get the rest of his playoff career
3:33: Rodney works around one-out walk in scoreless eighth. One weak grounder. Two strikeouts. #Mariners lead Cubs 2-0 going to ninth.
3:20: #Mariners bring in Fernando Rodney with 2-0 lead in the eighth over Cubs.
3:12: Beimel with a one-two-three inning. #Mariners lead Cubs 2-0 going to the eighth.
3:03: LHR Joe Beimel inherits 2-0 lead from Ramirez to start the seventh. First outing since March 8.
3:03: Is Erasmo Ramirez in the #Mariners' rotation after six scoreless innings lowered his ERA to 0.96. Will ask McClendon. Want to guess answer?
2:53: Cactus League attendance record of 15,243 watching #Mariners and Cubs at Cubs Park.
2:49: #Mariners LF Dustin Ackley's average is up to .467 (21 for 45) with three hits in three at-bats (so far) against Cubs.
EXTRA: Finished three for four. Average is .457.
2:39: Cubs LF Junior Lake just took a two-run homer away from Logan Morrison with a leaping catch at the wall.
2:36: Corey Hart with a hard-hit single to open the spring (after two strikeouts). Might be his best swing of the spring.
2:24: Robinson Cano is two for two with a walk so far today against Cubs. That makes him 17 for 29.
EXTRA: Finished two for three. Batting .567.
2:21: #Mariners take 1-0 lead over Cubs in fifth when Almonte singles, steals second, goes to third on wild pitch and scores on Seager sac fly.
1:42: Hernandez threw 82 pitches in seven innings (60 strikes). Seems those Hi-A Brewers were swinging.
1:39: Felix Hernandez worked 7 innings in a minor-league game. Allowed 5 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), with 0 walks and 6 strikeouts
9:28: Paxton? True. Also has big upside talent. Other two on minor-league deals. We'll see. @joeypepinvoice he has options, Wolf and Baker do not.
9:10: Your guess as good as mine. @mrtonosays who sits opening night Lomo, Saunders, Hart, Ackley, Almonte?
9:08: Yes, possible, but #Mariners would prefer not to have three LHH at top of order. @kipkniskern Why not Brad Miller in leadoff? Possibility?
9:06: Agree. Has never had more than 55. @kylerogers18 McClendon on Justin Smoak: "I think he's got a chance to be a 100-RBI guy."” Bold.
9:04: Am guessing he's the favorite to lead off. @jrbew is the Almonte failing experiment about over?(no, I have no idea who should lead off)
9:03: 3 ERs in 13 innings. Hard to see how he doesn't make rotation. @bigticketshow how has Paxon looked?
8:51: McClendon on Justin Smoak: "I think he's got a chance to be a 100-RBI guy."
EXTRA: That's a sound bite. Here's the longer quote: "What I’ve tried to impart on him is `get that guy in from third. Don’t worry about the other two guys.’ Get the first guy in, and let everything else take care of itself. That’s how you become a run-producer. Guys get in the box with the bases loaded, or men on second and third, and they want to get them (all) in. Get the one in from third. Everything else will take care of itself. If he commits himself to that, I think he’s got a chance to be a 100-RBI guy."
8:36: Think rotation has a chance to be better than many think. @gesquivel4040 rotation choices are slim pickings right now...even YOU have a shot
8:34: Big day for LHR Joe Beimel; slotted today for first outing since March 8. Has been battling arm soreness.
8:32: McClendon said Blake Beavan didn't eliminate himself from rotation spot with rough outing Wednesday against Brewers; will get another shot.
EXTRA: Here's a quote: "Overall, I was disappointed in his outing. I expect more. I think he’s better than what he showed yesterday. But he’ll get another opportunity to get back out there."
EXTRA II: Beavan is slotted to face White Sox on Monday in Peoria.
8:26: Cubs vs. #Mariners: Lake 7, Barney 4, Schierholtz 9, Olt 5, Sweeney 8, Castillo 2, Murphy 6, Roberts 3 and Samardzija 1. (No DH; M's using.)
8:22: McClendon also says no rotation spots set beyond Felix Hernandez. But he wants a unit in place within a week.
8:20: McClendon on SS competition between Brad Miller and Nick Franklin: "As far as separation, I don't think they've separated themselves."
EXTRA: Complete quote: "As far as separation, I don’t think they’ve really separated themselves. I evaluate things a little differently than how you guys evaluate it. I don’t particularly evaluate on a given performance on any day. I see good things from both of them."
7:53: … OFs Austin Wilson and Cole Gillespie and C John Hicks.
EXTRA: Mariners later added RHP Stephen Kohlscheen to travel roster.
7:53: #Mariners' minor-league promotions for game vs. Cubs in Mesa: INFs Patrick Brady, Leury Bonilla and Ramon Morla…
7:43: #Mariners ranked 13th by Baseball America for 25-and-under talent. Braves are No. 1. Royals (No. 4) are top AL team. bit.ly/1lSOXlP
7:35: #Mariners at Cubs: Almonte 8, Seager 5, Cano 4, Smoak 3, Hart DH, Morrison 9, Ackley 7, Franklin 6, Buck 2 and E Ramirez 1.
