Kasey Kahne puts the hammer down

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kasey Kahne joined volunteers from Bank of America Tuesday to help frame a Habitat for Humanity house in one day at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The event is part of the build-up to Saturday’s Bank of America 500, and is part of the bank’s military appreciation Express Your Thanks campaign. The campaign, in its third year, has raised $1.4 million and has a goal of raising an additional $1 million by Veterans Day in November. Money raised in the effort supports military nonprofits that help service men and women transition to civilian life.

Bank volunteers who framed the home have all served in the military, bank officials said. The frame will be partially disassembled and moved Tuesday on a flatbed to a permanent site in west Charlotte. The house will be finished in the first quarter of 2015 and will be purchased by Samantha Ka, a Montagnard from Vietnam.
