Seahawks’ home, away opponents set for 2025--with playing against Russell Wilson likely
The Seahawks’ 2025 opponents are set.
And it appears another face-off against Russell Wilson is coming.
The Baltimore Ravens winning Saturday ensured Pittsburgh finished this regular season second in the AFC North. That means the Seahawks, second place in the NFC West, will play at the Steelers next season.
Whether that will be a game against Wilson, the former Seattle Super Bowl-winning quarterback, will be determined this offseason. By the Steelers.
Wilson will turn 37 during the 2025 season. Through November he seemed a lock to return to Pittsburgh when his contract ends after this season. Then he and the Steelers began turning the ball over. They lost their final four games of the regular season. Pittsburgh has gone from first place and 10-3 to 10-7. Wilson and the Steelers have a road playoff game next week as a wild card in the AFC, at the Ravens. They are heavy underdogs.
Yet many around the league and in Pittsburgh believe the Steelers are going to re-sign Wilson to be their quarterback for 2025.
After 10 seasons with him as their quarterback including as a Super Bowl winner, the Seahawks traded Wilson to Denver at his request before the 2022 season. The Broncos then gave him a $254 million contract.
He played two seasons for Denver. The Broncos struggled and were at times awful with him. Denver released him in March 2024, despite paying him $39 million...to then play for Pittsburgh at league-minimum salary.
Wilson has played the Seahawks one time since leaving Seattle. Successor Geno Smith beat Wilson and Denver in Lumen Field Sept. 12, 2022. That was week one of Smith’s first season as the Seahawks’ starter replacing Wilson.
The final game of the NFL 2024 regular season determined the Seahawks’ final unknown opponent for 2025. Minnesota losing at Detroit Sunday night means the Vikings finish second in the NFC North. Minnesota will play at Seattle next season, for the second consecutive year.
Coach Mike Macdonald said at the end of his rookie season as Seattle’s head coach he can’t wait for year two.
“I really believe this is the beginning of something really special. And I’m excited,” Macdonald, 37, said following the Seahawks’ 30-25 win at the Los Angeles Rams in the 2024 season finale.
“I kind of wish we could just…I want to go back to work. We need to take a deep breath here and think about how we’re going to move forward, but I’m excited to get back to work.”
The rest of the Seahawks’ 2025 opponents had been set by the league’s rotation of divisions playing each other:
