It's a short week so we're cramming all sorts of stuff into a condensed time period. We note today that the Seahawks rank 21st in total offense (15th rush, 20th pass) and 15th in total defense (16th rush, 18th pass). These are yardage-based rankings. The Seahawks are 21st in red-zone defense, which can be an important indicator. Super Bowl teams tend to rank among the top five or six in that category (Seattle was second last season). The top five in red-zone defense through Week 14: Baltimore, New England, Minnesota, Jacksonville and Oakland. Rule out the Vikings and Raiders, who are sufficiently horrible in other areas to cancel out their overall legitimacy, but don't be surprised if those other teams find ways to win playoff games.
The Seattle defense ranks 15th in third-down conversion percentage allowed. One telling stat: Seattle's defense ranks 23rd in yards per carry allowed (the Hawks were top-five in that category last season). League-wide rankings are here.
