Practice is over. Here are the highlights:
K Josh Brown was not at practice with what the team said was an excused absence. When the team did its field goal drills, none other than punter Ryan Plackemeier kicked. Plack made his first two kicks, hooked a third barely and did not get to try a third when holder Charlie Frye bobbled the snap. Plackemeier, who kicked in college, said in a bind he could do it but wouldn't be comfortable on longer kicks.
With center Chris Spencer being the "oblique injury of the week", Chris Gray was the center for the first-team offense. Filling in at his right guard spot was Floyd "Pork Chop" Womack. Spencer spent his time at practice wearing a backpack with an electric stimulation machine hooked up to his injury.
Other players not practicing were WR D.J. Hackett (ankle), CB Josh Wilson (quad) and DT Rocky Bernard. LB Will Herring (hamstring) was at practice but did not do much, if anything.
Catch(es) of the day belonged Logan Payne, who made two grabs that drew oohs and aahs. His first grab he laid out and made a nice catch about 20 yards down the field. On his second, he made a one-handed grab near the sideline.
