To clarify something from Sunday's game against the Eagles, Mike Holmgren said that special teams coach Bruce DeHaven did in fact tell Ryan Plackemeier to not kick the ball to Brian Westbrook, which is weird because I spoke with Plackemeier after the game and he did not mention that when we talked about it specifically. Perhaps I didn't ask the question properly since I was already under the assumption that Plackemeier was not told to punt away from Westbrook. In any case, Holmgren said Plack just messed up and kicked it to him when he should not have. Holmgren still took the blame because he said he should have told Plack specifically not to kick to Westbrook.
I also asked Holmgren about the final series when he ran Shaun three straight times. He said he went into that series knowing that he was not going to throw the ball. He wanted the Eagles to burn their timeouts. He said he tried to get the line fired up before the series, telling them that if the offense can average 3.5 yards a carry on the next three plays, the game is over.
Ken Whisenhunt is having his press conference right now, I need to go listen to that and I'll give the rest of the Holmgren highlights thereafter.
