In advance of the opening day of training camp I wrote a slice-of-life feature on the relationship between Jim Mora and his father for today’s paper, which you can check out here.
The younger Mora said he talks almost daily with his father, about family, life, and of course football. Mora said he also asked his father to be part of the coaching staff when he first accepted the job as Seahawks head coach, but the senior Mora wanted no part of it.
Here’s a snippet of the conversation I had with Mora, where he talks about the daily conversations between the two.

Mora also talked about some of the more memorable moments the two have shared in the NFL career, including the infamous ‘Playoffs’ rant that his father is known for. Mora was actually the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator in the game that the Indianapolis Colts lost to the 49ers, and was in the building when his father went off after the game. You can listen to that conversation here.
Mora senior also talked about the importance of hard work in being a head coach in the league here, which you can listen to here.
Brock Huard of ESPN 710 Seattle says Hawks OL Mike Wahle might be retiring.
Linebacker Aaron Curry tweets the contract negotiations are ongoing.
David Canter, the agent for offensive lineman Cory Withrow, says his client will sign with Seattle today. Taking a look at his bio, it looks like Withrow can play some center and guard, but he hasn’t started a game since starting four games for the San Diego Chargers in 2007. I see this move as adding more depth to the interior line, but if Wahle can’t go, then the Seahawks likely will find his replacement from the lineman already on the roster.
The Seahawks are hopeful Aaron Curry will sign today in time for the first day of training camp, but don't be surprised if he misses a day or two.
There’s still some talk nationally that Michael Vick could be headed to Seattle, but I don’t see it happening. The situation would be a public relations nightmare for Jim Mora during his first season as head coach in Seattle, and the Seahawks already have a quarterback with a similar skill set in Seneca Wallace.
Ex-Seahawks quarterback Warren Moon has a new book out, “Never Give Up On Your Dream: My Journey,” which he co-authored with Don Yaeger. Moon said the book, which details the trials and tribulations of his career, was a good, emotional release, and that he thinks he would have been an even better player had he been more open and honest about his emotions at the time.
