Reports: No elbow surgery for Richard Sherman; Pete Carroll's son Brennan to join Seahawks coaching staff

Apparently Richard Sherman will be holding his newborn son almost exclusively in his right arm.

Sherman is deciding for now to not have surgery to repair the torn ligament in his left elbow, Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reported this afternoon. Garafolo says the All-Pro cornerback is apparently opting for rest and rehabilitation during the offseason that just began last week, after Sherman played the Super Bowl with the injury.

Still no official confirmation from the Seahawks that defensive backs coach Kris Richard is indeed Dan Quinn's replacement as the defensive coordinator, as KING-5 television reported was a done deal on Friday.

But Pete Carroll's coaching staff is apparently adding another of his sons.

The Sun Sentinel newspaper in South Florida is reporting Carroll's son Brennan is leaving the staff of the University of Miami to join his dad's with the Seahawks.

Carroll already has son Nate on his Seattle staff as an offensive assistant.

--The Seahawks signed seven players today, including former Washington Huskies wide receiver Kevin Smith.

The other six: quarterback R.J. Archer, guard C.J. Davis, long snapper Luke Ingram, linebacker Brendan Kelly, defensive end Will Pericak and center Jared Wheeler.
