Kam Chancellor had hip surgery

UPDATE: The Seahawks have confirmed that Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor had hip surgery a month ago. It's unknown if he'll be ready for preseason. Mandatory mini-camp begins June 17. The first preseason game is August 7.

John Clayton first reported that Chancellor was going to have "minor" hip surgery in the offseason.

When I directly asked Seahawks general manager John Schneider last week if Chancellor had surgery, he said he did not want to discuss that.

Ian Rapoport first reported that Chancellor had hip surgery.

Chancellor, who has been in the VMAC during voluntary workouts, which began Phase II yesterday, initially contradicted Clayton's report by taking to Twitter and saying he had not had surgery.

Chancellor's injury could mean a safety -- like Washington State's Deone Buccannon --could be high on the Seahawks' radar at No. 32 overall. Seattle needed to improve its safety depth even without Chancellor having surgery. It re-signed Jeron Johnson and also can look at DeShawn Shead as an option.

Bucannon worked out for the Seahawks on April 21. It was one of 23 workouts/meetings with NFL teams he made. The Seahawks also spoke to Bucannon at the NFL combine.
